50 Years of Creativity: Farmington Fine Arts Night Strikes a Nostalgic Note

Farmington Elementary School blended past and present in a joyful celebration of creativity during this year’s Fine Arts Night, made even more special as the school honors its 50th anniversary. Opened in 1975, Farmington paid tribute to its roots with a musical journey through the 1970s, filling the building with familiar tunes and heartfelt performances.

Guests were welcomed into hallways transformed into vibrant galleries, featuring student artwork thoughtfully displayed by art teachers Kaitlyn Seahorn and Pam Anderson. Each piece reflected the imagination and growth of Farmington’s young artists, turning the school into a living showcase of color, creativity, and student voice.

The sounds of the 70s echoed through the building as student performers brought classic hits to life. Under the direction of Amy Assad, the Farmingtones choir energized the audience with crowd favorites like “We Are Family” and “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” celebrating not only musical talent but the strong sense of community that defines Farmington.

Adding to the evening’s energy, students in Derek Brookshire’s Guitar Club delivered a spirited performance of “Low Rider,” impressing the crowd with their skill, rhythm, and stage presence. Meanwhile, orchestra students led by Roy Murdock showcased their musical growth with a polished performance that highlighted their dedication and teamwork.

More than just a showcase, Fine Arts Night served as a powerful reminder of the role the arts have played in Farmington’s story over the past five decades. From 1975 to today, the arts have given generations of students a voice, a creative outlet, and the confidence to shine.

As Farmington celebrates 50 years of excellence, this special night honored not only the school’s history, but also the bright, creative future of its students.
